
Richard (Dick) Huelsmann was a lifelong resident of Stillwater, Minnesota, where he dedicated his life to serving the community. His dynamic leadership in a number of nonprofit organizations improved the quality of life for past, present and future generations.
Dick was born on February 17, 1941. After graduating from Stillwater High School in 1959, he went on to graduate with high honors from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in business administration. He came back to Minnesota to work for Arthur Andersen Co., retiring as a senior partner in 1997.
Dick worked tirelessly to advance the goals of many charitable and religious organizations and was named a 2007 recipient of the "Distinguished Alumni Award" for Stillwater Area High School. Dick's commitment to volunteerism included work for the United Way of Minneapolis; the Indianhead Council, Boy Scouts of America; the Church of St. Mary in Stillwater, where he led the major renewal and renovation of the church in 1989; Board of Directors of Dunrovin Brothers Christian Retreat Center; Washington County Public Health Advisory Committee; the completion of the Veteran's Memorial, and on the Board of Directors for the Stillwater Public Library where he championed the major renovation and expansion of this historic facility.
Dick was also a Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre. A gifted musician, Huelsmann began playing the organ for St. Mary's Church when he was 12 years old. He continued to play for Sunday Mass for more than 50 years. Dick enjoyed golfing, boating, skiing, and horses and enjoyed these activities with his many friends.
